"INDEPENDENT senator Nick Xenophon's bid to have an inquiry into the tax-free status of religious and charitable groups, including the Church of Scientology, has failed."

Obviously too much work/trouble for our Government. Too many religious politicians.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, religion is the source of all evil

Scientology is a good example of evil. They just go to show how so-called religious groups can exploit the system and gain tax cuts at the expense of the whole country.

Yeah, it sucks that religions get tax-free status when most other businesses have to fork out. A possible reason why they get this privelege is that the government wants to encourage institutions that are hierarchical and dogmatic like they are.
Governments collude with and protect select businesses and special interests in order to hold the rest of us down economically and create conflict and prejudice, but done passively enough so that it looks like it's our fault, therefore legitimising the government in our eyes.
The best solution is for people to make themselves tax exempt.
